5 Days To Go…

Or so they say. I’ve been thinking it may be sooner, but for now it looks like the little guy is pretty content just where he is. I have another doctor’s appointment this afternoon, so maybe there will be some progress. Maybe. I’ve stopped getting my hopes up. And, considering I’m still feeling more or less “fine” for being 9 months pregnant, I can’t complain. It’s all mental at this point.

(Sorry, as happy as I am to be thisclose to having him, I seem to have issues with looking severely depressed every time I try to take a self-pic.)

We JUST want to meet him! And we’re super curious to  know what this little boy looks like! Will his eyes be blue (like mom’s) or green (like dad’s) or mysteriously turn out to be brown? Will he have much hair? Will it be dark? I was basically born looking like an eskimo…thick, dark hair, round face, almond eyes, dark skin. But eventually turned out to be blond and far from the native roots I seemed to originally possess.

A nice flashback to the 80’s. Yes, I’m the baby in both of these…

Nothing left to do now but wait. And hope for a safe, healthy labor! As much as I feel like I’ve been pregnant for years now, this past 9-10 months has definitely flown by. Can’t believe we’re going to be parents within a week!

Weeks 32-34. Showers and Nursuries and Nesting, Oh My!

The closer the baby gets, the busier I seem to become. And the more that happens, the more the realness of it all seems to set in.

I’ve had two more showers in the past few weeks — a work shower (which I got to share with two other preggo coworkers):

And my friend shower:

Needless to say, both were wonderful and Baby P. came out with so many great, new things.

And, I’ve finished the nursery! Wu-Hu!!!

I’m so happy with the way everything turned out. We still need to install the ceiling fan, and I do have one more art project I think I’m going to add to the walls. But it’s pretty much complete!

And, yes, the nesting is here, too. Lucas caught me cleaning the fridge at about 10 o’clock last night, and continuing to clean it at about 7 am this morning. And I’ve organized our linen closet, and all of the baby’s clothes. If only I  cared this much about cleaning all the time!

Weeks 30-31. And 8 1/2 to go….

This week I noticed that I’ve stopped describing how far along I am in the weeks I’ve come so far, and instead in the weeks I have left. I guess that means it’s getting really close. Like, 61 days…as my freshly finished chalkboard deco has declared.

I’m incredibly excited about how they turned out. The whole process was pretty easy (the hardest part was waiting 3 days for the squares to dry so I could hang up the frames and start drawing!). I just measured out my squares, painted the inside, spray painted some frames I found on super-clearance at Hobby Lobby, and put it all together. I don’t know exactly what we’ll put in there once the countdown is complete. I imagine sweet little drawings and messages for Baby P. until he can hold that chalk and write something of his own.

That corner of the room is pretty much done. I still need a cribskirt. And I have liners on backorder at PBKids for those white baskets (another hand-me-down from my sister, who had two girls and 4 very pink liners in there). I also replaced those knobs from the girly ones my nieces had to some more manly man red knobs from Hobby Lobby. Which, I highly recommend checking out if you need knobs. Almost the exactly same ones were $20 a pair at PBKids, and only $3 a pair at HL! I also had my first shower this past weekend, which is where I got that cute “Toys” bin — given to me by my nieces and nephews, and stocked with some great books.

The only thing missing (other than the baby) is the mobile I’m working on. I actually have the pieces, and they’re pretty cute, but the whole balancing thing isn’t quite right. So, that is still to come.

Oh, and that rug? Well, it’s been officially broken in. This picture says it all:

See that look on that sweet, sweet dog’s innocent face? Well, we woke up this morning to find that she wasn’t feeling too well overnight, and she…ummm…broke it in. I’ll spare you the details, as they weren’t pretty. But I think I was able to clean it up pretty well. And now, it’s totally broken in for the baby. Right?

Okay, enough of that. On a fresher note, this baby isn’t the only pumpkin brewing at our house. Literally. Cause out in the backyard, we have a real life pumpkin patch.

And not just any pumpkin patch, one with three Gigantic Pumpkins, two of which now weigh over 200 lbs, and are still growing. In fact, their official “due date” is October 2. Just six short days after Baby P.’s. The baby of the group is still small, but growing quickly. So, it only made sense to start tracking that pumpkin’s progress against my own. Be prepared for weekly updates from here on out…

Seriously, who needs all those online fruit charts with a backyard like this?!

Weeks 28-29. Please Pardon the Bump.

Weeks 27-29.

Remember the stupid 80’s movie Spaceballs? And remember that man-dog creature, Barf? Well, I can recall maybe 5% of what was said in that movie, but for some reason, I have a very vivid recollection of the part when Barf’s tail tries to peak under some lady’s skirt, and Barf says something to the effect of, “Oh sorry, he has a mind of his own.” Odd, right? Especially considering I was probably 8 when I first saw it. Anyway, my point is, I currently sympathize with Barf. This belly, too, seems to have a mind of its own. I’m constantly finding my growing bump copping a feel on random backsides, knocking down displays on store shelves, and struggling to squeeze through spaces that seemed oh so forgivable in the past. And with 10 weeks left, it’s only going to get worse. Thanks, Barf, for making me know I’m not alone.

And speaking of hairy, dog-like creatures, we’ve recently found out that Baby P. is not the only new guy in the neighborhood. Our next door neighbors have four baby foxes living in their backyard! He set up a game cam to catch them in action, since they only come out at night. They look like they’re doing well.

And, by pure coincidence, we now have an accessory in the baby’s room to match!

I saw these flashcards at Anthropologie a while back, and then found them cheaper on Amazon. Added some twine and some clothespins, and now have the perfect little accent!

We also picked up the baby furniture this week. I’m lucky enough to have an older sister whose children are well past the crib-stage, so we inherited some nice PBKids pieces. (And, in case you’re up-to-date on baby gear recalls, the crib was a drop-side, but Pottery Barn sent me the repair kit for free, so it’s safe.)

Oh, and those black boxes? They’re my current project. It’s actually chalkboard paint, which will soon be complete with some bold red frames. More info on that to come.

And, yes, the rug I love. All four of our pets seem to think it was placed there for them. They’re all in for a little shock come this fall. But, we’ll let them enjoy it for now.

That’s all for now. Tomorrow makes me officially 30 weeks! Once again, still feeling good. Last week Lucas and I even witnessed that creepy yet incredible moment when you actually see a body part squirm around in my belly. He’s an active little guy in there!

Weeks 27-28. Happy 4th!

Weeks 27-28.

Things are still going well. The little man had a good time kicking right in sync with all the 4th of July fireworks this week. And a couple of days off work helped me get a little bit further along in the nursery progress! Yes, that’s the beginning of his room in the background — new furniture to come once we get that old dresser out of the way…

Weeks 24-27. Catching Up.

I’ve fallen behind on my weekly posts. Two straight weeks of work travel will do that to a prego girl. I’m not sure how much longer I can travel. I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and that’s my only big question for her right now. However, I will say, traveling on the verge of my third trimester hasn’t been bad. I was a little concerned about the puffiness factor, but by drinking tons of water, I seemed to conquer that issue with ease. I also take a daily baby aspirin (just to be safe based on some little blood thing I was tested for because of my genetics), which helps with the whole increased risk of flying thing, too. So, while the two weeks did wear me out, I can’t say it was any more so than it would have been non-pregnant. Right now I don’t have any more scheduled trips for work before the due date, but as of now I can’t say I’d need to turn one down if I did…unless of course, my doctor said to. And now Baby P. can add Minneapolis ( Mall of America included) and Washington D.C. (second time, actually) to his list of in utero travels.

I’ve also somehow managed to get A LOT done in the world of baby preparation the past few weeks…
1.I finally registered at Babies R Us (something I was dreading, and swore I wasn’t going to do. When it came down to it, I had no choice. Thank God I have a very focused and experienced sister to guide me).

2. We got his stroller. And never in my life would I have imagined getting giddy over a baby stroller. But, yes, I did. I was really struggling with what to get at first. And although I had a wealth of opinions coming my way on what/how many I needed, I went with my own gut. I really, really, really didn’t want to have to have 8 strollers in my garage. And while the travel systems look all cozy, they also seem bulky with a short usage period. And while the joggers look really cool, I don’t really jog…and if I do, I don’t think I will with the baby…and if I do, I’ll splurge and get one when the time comes (I know, joggers are good for rugged terrain, too. But the reviews for the one I picked said it’s great on sidewalks, and for now, that’s as rugged as I plan to get). And then there’s that shopping cart thing, and the umbrella stroller…See, people, this is stressful!

But then that stress was relinquished when I discovered — the BumbleRide Flite.

It’s basically the whole package. It works with the car seat I want, then converts to a simple umbrella-type for later. It folds easily (I plan to keep my Jetta for as long as I can), and is super light, yet durable. And, it’s actually really good-looking! Yes, we will be stylin’. So far, I love it. Let’s hope this love remains when it actually contains a baby, too!

3. My RUG came!

I was waiting and waiting, and since it was on backorder I even got a little nervous. But it came and it’s adorable and I even…

4. …picked out a paint color to match! Yep, I painted Baby P’s room turquoise this weekend, and it’s so, so cute. Granted, it’s bright (as Lucas immediately pointed out), but it’s cheery and adorable. And now I can’t wait to do the rest. As soon as it all comes together (don’t hold your breath, this is gonna take a few weeks), I’ll post some pics. At least I’ve gotten the ball rolling.

So, that’s my past three weeks in a nutshell. And now I’ve reached the third trimester! The bigger my belly gets, the more prepared I am for him to come. And, yet, there’s still so much to do. We’re getting there. Come on “nesting,” time to work your magic…

Weeks 23-24. Kickin’ It.

Weeks 23-24.

I have officially reached the 6 month mark! Which also means I’m officially starting to feel huge, grunt when I bend down to tie my shoes, and wake up grateful for each day that my wedding ring still slides on and off of my finger (I’ve heard that combined with this heat wave, the ring thing may not last too much longer).

Baby P. got to experience the sounds of his very first Cards/Cubs game last Friday. It was clear he enjoyed the big win — when I got home and laid down, he started kicking away, and Lucas was able to feel him for the very first time! I was so excited to share all the movement. It’s been killing me that I’ve basically been feeling him moving around in there since week 15, and Lucas  just had to take my word for it. I swear, each week there’s something that makes this whole thing seem that much more real.

Another random beginning this week, a new exercise routine. Since the pools are now open, I’ve decided to start swimming laps. And seriously, if you’re pregnant, go swim. It’s honestly the greatest form of exercise when you’ve got a baby in your belly. The water makes you totally forget you’re even pregnant, and you feel so good and stretched out when it’s over. Plus, when your head’s in the water, you don’t even notice all those cute, skinny girls running around in those teensy bikinis with their super-flat tummys…and if you do, it’s just more motivation to swim another lap.

Anyway, just 4 more months to go. Seriously? That sounds like forever. Six months did come and go awfully quickly, though. Hope these next 4 do, too…but not until he’s big and healthy, the nursery is done (or even started), I force myself to go register…
